Painting of a Massachusetts Beach Cottage During Sunrise.

I was inspired to paint this classic Cape Cod style cottage one summer while I was visiting my parents who lived down the road at the time. Despite the fact that I’m not a morning person, I forced myself out of bed just before sunrise to take reference photos in the morning light.
The building itself has always seemed charming whenever I would walk by ,it, but it was the weathered post and rail fence with the long marsh grass growing at it’s base that caught my eye. This is titled as a painting of a cottage, but to me the fence and grass are the stars of the show. Thankfully it was a quiet morning without any cars driving around as I laid down in the street to get this angle.
I’m glad a painted this scene when I did. A couple years later the building was bought, torn down, and replaced by a larger, not-as-charming home.
