Watercolor Painting of a General Store in Biddeford Pool, ME.

The local general store we had in our small Massachusetts town was the social center of our community. It was where the adults would get coffee and chat and where the children would get 5 cent candy and the teenagers would hang out in the parking lot. For me the classic New England general store is a source of nostalgia. Whenever I see one still in existence I always like to stop in.
I first saw the F.O. Golthwaite store when I went to Biddeford Pool, Maine to meet a client. It caught my eye when I drove by it for the exact same reasons I mentioned above. When I drove past it on my way home I pulled over to take some reference photographs for this painitng.
This store is still around and, now operating as Pool Lobster / F.O. Goldthwaite’s. It has retained it’s New England general store charm.
