A Painting of Friends Fishing Off the Back of a Charter Boat in Cape Cod Bay
One of my brothers owned a charter boat that hailed out of Scituate, Massachusettes. He used to do fishing charters out into Cape Cod Bay quite frequently. One summer he was hired by a film crew that was doing a documentary about tuna fishing. A friend in a nearby boat took a photo of my brother’s boat with the film crew in back. A couple of the crew were taking the time to cast some lines. My brother sent me the photo. As a gift, I painted this for him, changing all of the rest of the film crew into fishermen as well. The original painting currently hangs in his office.
Original Painting
The original painting is 16×20 inches, watercolor on panel. This was a bit of an experiment with watercolors straight out of the tube and not thinned down, using them almost like oil paints. I liked the effect and this technique eventually led me to gouache, which is my current medium of choice.
